On Saturday December 13th, four All-Stars from the Brooklyn Tech team played in the annual battle of Brooklyn vs Brooklyn known as the Reilly Classic. Each year, the borough is broken up into a National and American team.  Those teams are made up of seniors from all the public high schools in Brooklyn.  Playing this year for Brooklyn Tech were Lawrence Menyah, Brian Gill, Ayinde Pope and Alpha Gamby.

The game celebrates the work of Dick Reilly, a longtime coach at Sheepshead Bay High School, and his friend and mentor Vincent Carbonaro.  Coach Carbonaro was the head football coach at John Jay High School.  Dick Reilly created the game in the early 1980’s as an alternative the Fugazzi Bowl on Staten Island. The game’s Most Valuable Player Award is named after Vincent Carbonaro and comes with a $1k scholarship.  A larger scholarship, given by the Vincent Carbonaro Scholarship Foundation, is given each spring to a Brooklyn football player in the senior class.

The American side defeated the National side 24-20.  Lawrence Menyah had a key 20 yard catch for the American side on its clinching 4th quarter drive.
