On Tuesday April 28th, a contingent of student-athletes were invited to visit Lafayette College. At one point, Lafayette was a popular choice for Brooklyn Tech Football players looking for a mix of academics and athletics similar to their high school experience. It started with Adam J. Cirillo, who would later teach and coach at Tech. Cirillo brought Frank Downing to Lafayette for a visit at the end of Frank’s senior year. Downing, and Tech and Lafayette football alum Horace Davis, accompanied the group on the tour of the facilities.
The group of student-athletes from football consisted of juniors Henry Kamornik, Anthony Villegas, K. C. Vasilas, and Mahmoud Shabana. Sophomores that attended the trip were Paul Pianin, John Hemminger, Peter Henderson and Tom Reilly. Jack Kaplan from the Lacrosse team also came on the trip.
The young men were able to spend some time with Frank Tavani, the Lafayette head football coach, and tour the football facilities. The players were shown a video about the historic 150th Lafayette vs Lehigh game this past November at Yankee Stadium.
