New York City ended a five year drought in Boomer Esiason’s Empire Challenge this past Tuesday with a 39-34 win over Long Island. The game featured 50 of New York City’s best football players from private and public school, including Brooklyn Tech’s Mahmoud Shabana.
In his post game comments, Boomer Esiason noted that this year’s matchup was the most exciting in the history of the game. Mr. Esiason and his foundation (www.esiason.org) started the all-star game 21 years ago to raise money in the fight against cystic fibrosis.
The New York City coaching staff was led by CJ O’Neil from Cardinal Hayes High School and was assisted by a collection of additional head coaches from the PSAL including game administrator and Brooklyn Tech Head Coach Kyle McKenna.
